Metrowater responds

CHENNAI: With reference to a report “Sewage overflow a problem on several streets” published in these columns on June 14, 2009, the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board said desilting of manholes was completed in Zone II at East Kallarai Salai, West Kallarai Salai, Bishop Lane in Old Washermenpet, Seven Wells, Kasimedu, where residents complained of frequent sewer blocks.

At present there was no sewage overflow in these locations. Periodical desilting of manholes was done using machines where surcharge of sewage occurred. The water contamination complaint in Sundarapuram and Sivarajapuram was being attended then and there and the water quality checked . There was no sewage overflow at present in Thiruvenkatasamy Street, Ramasamy Street and Mannarsamy Koil Street in wards 41 and 42, a release said.
