HYDERABAD: In a significant step, the State government has decided to give subsidies to SCs, STs, BCs, minorities, women and physically-challenged at a uniform rate, while sanctioning self-help projects under various schemes. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy cleared a proposal for uniform subsidies, after the feedback from district Collectors here on Saturday that a few were aggrieved at a higher subsidy given to SCs and STs. At the conference, it was also decided to extend the “pavala vaddi” (3 per cent interest) scheme to all the loans availed by these sections for various purposes under different schemes. Briefing the media persons later, Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao announced that the Centre had sanctioned 11 model colleges in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, East and West Godavari,Prakasam, Kurnool, Anantapur, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad and Medak. The Collectors were asked to immediately acquire land for these colleges. Similarly, they were instructed to provide 10 acres of land each to 49 polytechnics sanctioned in the last two years. As 34 out of the 298 Kasturba Vidyalayas sanctioned to the State lacked buildings, lands were to be allotted to these too. The Collectors were directed to be strict while dealing with ragging on campuses. Mr. Rao announced that a sum of Rs. 20,000 would be immediately sanctioned to the SC/ST allottees of Indiramma houses to enable them to complete dwellings immediately. The gesture would benefit over 10 lakh beneficiaries.
