Work on Nemmeli plant this year

CHENNAI: Work on the desalination plant of 100 million litres a day (MLD) at Nemmeli would commence this year, on finalisation of tenders, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin told the Assembly on Friday.
Initiating the debate on the demand for grants to Municipal Administration and Water Supply department, he said the tenders were invited for the project following an international competitive bidding process. The project would be completed in 24 months.
The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had sanctioned a grant of Rs.871.24 crore. In March, the Union government released Rs.300 crore for the project.
He said the works for the 100-MLD desalination plant at Minjur were underway.
The plant would be put into use this year.
