Pricol workers observe fast

Workers want increase in dearness allowance

They seek recognition for all trade unions


COIMBATORE: Some of the workers of Pricol are on a fast demanding that only permanent workers should be engaged for work involving direct production.

A group of workers belonging to the Coimbatore District Pricol Employees Trade Union (Plant I and Plant IV) and Coimbatore District Pricol Labourers Trade Union, affiliated to the AICCTU, have been on fast for the last 13 days, said a union representative.

The demands of the agitating workers include increase in dearness allowance for all workers, removal of “black holiday” system, having only permanent workers in direct manufacturing activities and recognition for all trade unions.

Employees

The Pricol plants here have about 1,500 permanent workers and nearly 2,200 non-permanent workers, the representative said.
