‘Warring’ DJs at Hyderabad Central

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: It is not everyday that you hear Raj Kapoor’s classic Mera joota hai Japani playing on a busy weekend at Hyderabad Central. And to then have Mukesh’s voice give way to the rhythm of house is even rarer. Both happened here on Saturday when Hyderabad Central hosted ‘War of the DJ’ as part of a promotional youth festival Youthopia @ Central.

Youngsters from across the city, who were already DJs or interested in ‘DJing’ were invited to register. Out of the 30 applicants eight were chosen for the final event. The finalists then competed in a live event at Central to walk away with a prize of Rs.25,000 and the title of ‘Best DJ’. “This is a great public platform for newcomers who are trying to make a name for themselves’, said Anand, one of the participants.

House, hip-hop, techno and bollywood, were all featured in the mixes on offer. After two hours of mixing music, DJ Neil was declared the winner while DJ Kiran was the runner up. The event, sponsored by Club Mahindra, is part of a promotional series on till July 5 aimed at youngsters.
