Stress on learning Hindi

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: An official language conference stressing the importance of having a single language for all official communications was held at the Anna Road exchange premises of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) here recently.

Since Hindi was the official language of the country, M.P. Velusamy, General Manager, BSNL Chennai Telephones, stressed that everyone should be proficient in the language.

“Hindi is the second most widely spoken language in the world. Hindi gives an identity to the country and ensures national integration,” said M. Navnath Kamble, Deputy Director (South), Hindi Teaching Scheme, Ministry of Home Affairs.

“Our national language should be used as a vehicle for all creativity,” he added.

Presentations on the initiatives taken by the official language policy cell and the status of Hindi in Tamil Nadu were given by language experts.
