Coimbatore: Creative and colourful minds of children from different age groups were at their best in the inter-school drawing and painting competition held at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on Saturday. Ajantha School of Arts and Kalvi had jointly organised the event.

The children were divided into five groups with standard I to standard III students in group ‘A’, IV to V standard students in group ‘B’, group ‘C’ had students from VI to VIII standard, while group ‘D’ had students from IX to X standard and group ‘E’ consisted of XI and XII standard students.

The topics differed with groups - nature or fantasy to pet animals or colourful birds to scenery or favourite cartoon character to Indian culture or village scene to national leaders or pollution control.

The enthusiasm was evident among the students as they took to their brushes to showcase their creativity.

Messages

The seniors displayed their thoughts and messages in different ways like the crying trees, a comparison between the city and village life, global warming issues and many more.

The portraits of leaders like Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar looked as real as they could be. Cartoon characters like Tweety, Spiderman, Mickey Mouse, Ben Ten and Heart Blast also became part of the kids painting and imagination.

Some were breathtaking as the juniors drew portraying water reflection. While a second standard boy painted realistic trees with water shading, another child showcased shadings with colour pencils. A second standard girl infused life in the river she painted with her strokes for waves.

The juniors displayed their creativity in the form of stunning paintings of birds, animals and amazed people with paintings of their favourite cartoon characters. The secondary students painted beautiful village sceneries, and their interpretations of villages. Senior students created thought-provoking sketches and paintings about issues like global warming.

The paintings were a visual treat and the attention to detail given by them was commendable as was the case with a fourth standard student who depicted reflections in the water and a seventh standard student’s portrayal of different textures using colour pencils.

The parent of a participant, I. Goswami, suggested that the frequency of such competitions should be increased.

Another parent V. Janaki observed that such competitions provided an excellent platform for the students to showcase their talent.

About 670 students participated in the event. From each category 10 students received prizes while all were given participation certificate.
