CNG station likely at Monda Market

Special Correspondent

12 new filling stations to come up; land allotted to a mother station at Shamirpet

HYDERABAD: The capital’s City Central Station for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is likely to come up near Monda Market with the Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd., requesting government to allot 2,000 sq.mts of land near the market.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulation Board (PNRB) has already confirmed allocation of CNG to the twin cities and land has been allotted to a mother station at Shamirpet. Tenders for this station are being finalised and it is likely to start operating by the year-end.

Transport Commissioner Raymond Peter informed the recently held meeting of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) presided over by Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy about these developments. Top officials of civic and related departments participated.

As Monda market land belongs to the Agriculture Market Committee, the site is to be inspected. The Bhagyanagar firm had indicated that 12 more new filling stations are to come up. It also sought permission from district Collectors concerned to lay a pipeline from Shamirpet to Monda Market.

The Commissioner said standardisation of CNG kits is being taken up and APSRTC has been asked to come up with an action plan to convert its fleet to the CNG mode. Highlighting the need for keeping footpaths free of encroachments, Mr. Ramakanth Reddy was for zero tolerance towards encroachments and called upon GHMC and police to take up enforcement drive at least in 12 stretches to begin with. All commercial complexes should have adequate parking.
