According to Gopinath’s wife Jyothi, her marriage was solemnised on April 30, 2007, in Bangalore. She said she was being mentally and physically harassed by Gopinath and others in their house. She said Gopinath had claimed that he was having an affair with his sister-in-law and he had even showed her photographs on his cellphone. She claimed that Gopinath had also clicked photographs of her in a compromising position. She said when she complained to her father-in-law, he dismissed it. She said she went to her parents’ house unable to bear the harassment and filed a complaint against her husband in the MICO Layout police station.
