HYDERABAD: An action plan to step up security for the temple town of Tirumalawill be ready in a fortnight.

In view of enhanced threat perception from terrorists, the issue was discussed at the Collectors’ conference here on Saturday. A report was also submitted by the Additional DGP (Intelligence), K. Arvind Rao to the government on this issue.

Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy told reporters after the Collectors’ conference here that an action plan would be ready in 15 days. Director-General of Police S.S.P. Yadav also reiterated the police force’s determination to protect the wealthy and famous temple.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is said to have asked the officials to pay more attention to providing job-oriented training skills to the rural youth. He is said to have made it clear that during agitations, the police should observe utmost restraint. He stated that under no circumstances the police should lose their cool and resort to firing on agitators. Briefing reporters later, Home Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy said that the government had taken serious note of the terror threats. National Security Guards would be stationed in Hyderabad to meet any eventuality. The specialised anti-terror Octopus would also be activated to tackle terrorism and naxalism.

Attacks on women

She said a serious note was taken on the growing atrocities on women, particularly incidents of acid attacks, rape and other crime.
