Neha Prasad continues her giant-killing act

KOLKATA: Unseeded Neha Prasad continued her giant-killing act ousting fourth seed Aliya Nayeem in the quarterfinals of the girls’ singles under-18 event of the Calcutta Punjab Club BTA junior tennis championship on Saturday. Neha had beaten the second seed in the under-14 category on Friday.

Neha was in total control against Aliya. She took no time in grabbing the first set 4-1. Aliya made a come back in the second set with better rallies from the baseline forcing Neha to make errors. However, Neha prevailed in the tie-breaker.

The results: Girls: U-18 Singles (quarterfinals): Andrea Das bt Shreya Das 4-1, 4-1; Priyam Periwal bt Angana Mukherjee 5-3, 4-2; Neha Prasad bt Aliya Nayeem 4-1, 5-4(3); Tulana Nan bt Ishita Tibrewal 4-1, 4-1.

Boys: U-14 singles (pre-quarterfinals): Richie Agarwal bt Zaid Ali Akhtar 4-2, 4-0; Mudit Kedia bt Raghav Nevatia 4-2, 5-4 (2); Aayush Poddar bt Mobasher Alam 5-4(2), 4-2; Yuvraj Bains bt Aviraj Sen 4-2, 4-2; M. Kamran Ali bt Rishabh Shah 4-1, 4-1; Najib Islam bt Tenzing Bhutia 5-3, 5-3.

Dilip in line for triple

Dilip Kumar is in line for a triple crown at the Sportzbiz veterans’ meet at the Tollygunge Club. Dilip Kumar partnering Ashis Sen reached the final of the 45 and above doubles. The duo beat Naseem Ali and B. Mullick 6-1, 6-1.

The results: Veterans’ doubles 45 years & above (semifinals): Dilip Kumar & Ashis Sen bt Naseem Ali & B. Mullick 6-1, 6-1; Jaffer Nayeem & Hira Lal Bhandari bt Raj Dadhich & B.N. Dhupar 3-6, 6-3(4).

55 years & above (semifinals): Somnath Bose & Dilip Kumar bt Amiya Bhattacharyya & Narayan Mullick 6-1, 6-1; Naseem Ali & A. Dutta bt Tapas Sengupta & Sadhan Biswas 6-4, 6-2.
