Jaipur: Karnataka’s A.P. Gagan set a new mark in the 800m freestyle boys’ group I event, and clinched his seventh gold medal at the ongoing 36th Junior National aquatic championship here. Gagan clocked 8.43.60s to improve upon the old mark of 8.44.76 set by Rohit Hawaldar in 2006. Saurabh Sangvekar of Maharashtra came second with a time of 8.57.69s, while Akshay Krishna took the bronze with 9.06.54. Another recordThe 4x100 relay also saw a record tumbling as the Maharashtra team comprising Kavya Bhandekar, Gauri Desai, Rujuta Bhatt and Ananya clocked 4.56.44s in the medley girls’ group II. In the 1500m freestyle boys’ group II, A. Ajay of Karnataka prevailed in a close finish to take the gold ahead of M.D. Srinivas and Sachin Kumar Maurya of Uttar Pradesh. — PTI
