Ifteqar scores a braceMad Soccer Club defeated City College Old Boys 2-0 in the Sachdev Sports Cup veterans’ football tournament, organised by the Shastri Soccer Club, at Trimulgherry Ground here. After a barren first-half, MSC struck in the 15th minute through Ifteqar. Within five minutes, Ifteqar scored his second goal to complete the tally for the winner. Good responseThere was a good response to the Olympic Day Run, organised by the AP Olympic Association on Saturday, with about 5000 participants cutting across age groups taking part in it. The run commenced from seven centres in the twin cities with many internationals — past and current — including former national athlete M. Laxman Reddy, triple Olympian N. Mukesh Kumar, Sathi Geetha and P. Shankar leading the runs from different centres. Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who was the chief guest at the valedictory function where the Olympic torches from the seven centres were handed over to him, appreciated the APOA gesture. “It is imperative to inculcate a sporting spirit not just in sports but in any aspect of life to become respected citizens,” he told the gathering at the Lal Bahadur Stadium.
