Casino operators in Goa booked for alleged cheating
Prakash Kamat
PANAJI: The Crime Branch of the Goa Police on Saturday registered a case against the management of Update Recreation and Gaming Private Limited, casino operators at Majord Beach resorts of south Goa, for allegedly cheating Tourism Minister Micky Pacheco.
Mr. Pacheco had filed a complaint on Monday at Colva police in south Goa alleging that he was not paid an amount of Rs.1.25 crore which he had won at Casino Treasures.
This was denied by the casino operators. Instead, employees at the casino had filed a counter complaint at the same police station the next day accusing the Minister of criminally intimidating them.
After the issue got publicised, the police handed over the case to the Crime Branch for investigation.
Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar, had already accused the casino operators of operating gambling beyond the scope of their licence. He also demanded that the Minister be sacked for participating in the alleged illegal operations.
