COIMBATORE: “Vision Kovai Mission 10” reflects the needs of the public of Coimbatore and efforts will be taken for Coimbatore’s development, P.R. Natarajan, MP, said here on Friday.

He was speaking at a felicitation function organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, and several other industrial, trade and voluntary organisations.

Mr. Natarajan said most of the demands in rural areas were related to basic needs such as drinking water and road connectivity. The Vision sought measures for the overall development of Coimbatore and efforts would be taken for its growth.

Reacting to the infrastructural, industrial and trade demands, he said he would look into all the demands.

Vanitha Mohan, vice-president of the Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore and Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, sought additional assistance from the Union Government for the city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. She also pleaded for better rail connectivity between Coimbatore and the nearby towns of Pollachi, Mettupalayam, Tirupur and Palakkad.

Jayakumar Ramdass, President of the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association, said engineering units required financial support on the lines of the technology upgradation fund scheme. More funds should be allocated for the Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Project.

C. Balasubramanian, former secretary and treasurer of the Chamber, said the Union Government should implement the Goods and Services Tax from April 1 next year. Golden quadrangle road works should be implemented for smaller towns.
