Coimbatore: Various development works in 11 town panchayats at an outlay of Rs 5.50 crore, will commence soon, Collector, P. Umanath said here recently. He was presiding over a meeting to review the Anna Renaissance Schemes (ARS) at the Collectorate. Dr. Umanath pointed out that t in 2007-08 and 2008-09, Rs. 50 lakh each was allocated to 13 town panchayats. For the year 2009-10, Rs. 50 lakh was allocated to town panchayats such as Idigarai, Kinathukkadavu, Periya Negamam, Sulur, Vellalore, Karumathampatti, Mopperipalayam, No 4 Veerapandi, Veerakeralam, Sirumugai and Pallapalayam. The works to be taken up include construction of a community hall at an outlay of Rs. 10 lakh, improvement of the road leading to town panchayat at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh, improvements to the lakes, tanks and ponds at Rs. 5 lakh, improvements to bus stand and shops there, drinking water, parks. The 11 town panchayats have already submitted proposals for the works and administrative sanction was on the way. The local bodies should immediately float the tenders and commence the works, the Collector said.
