Van driver, cleaner robbed

Coimbatore: A vegetable vending mini-truck driver Murugan (37) of Mettupalayam and cleaner Manoharan (23) of Coonoor were robbed of Rs. 12.11 lakh by a six-member gang at Kottaipalayam, near Periyanaickenpalayam, on Thursday.
According to police, the driver and cleaner were returning from Ernakulam after off-loading vegetable consignment.
The vehicle was intercepted by two men who came on a motorcycle and picked up quarrel with them of having knocked the gangs motorcycle.
Later, another four men joined the gang and threatened the driver and the cleaner.
After the six men left, when the crew returned to the vehicle they found the cash kept in a box under the driver seat missing. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
