Coimbatore: The Southern Railway, Salem Division, in a drive against ticketless travel has registered cases against 478 persons and realised a fine of Rs. 1.38 lakh. The drive was led by Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem, Narayanasamy engaging 67 ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. The officials conducted the drive at Erode and Coimbatore Railway Stations between June 22 and 25 focussing 122 trains. The officials of the Salem Railway Division conducted the annual safety audit for Salem Division on June 24 and 25. The team was headed by Man Singh, Chief Safety Officer, Southern Railway, besides Danny Thomas, Chief Track Engineer, T.M. Sridhar, Chief Signal Engineer, Sasi Bhushan, Chief Rolling Stock Engineer, B.V. Chandrasekharan, Chief Electrical Design Engineer and Shri Amalraj, Senior Divisional Safety Officer of Salem Division and other officials. The safety audit team later conducted an inspection of Coimbatore – Erode section to evaluate the safety preparedness of the section.
