Teachers seek pay parity with Central staff

Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers’ Association urges State Government

PUDUKOTTAI: The district unit of the Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers’ Association has urged the state government to introduce pay scales for teachers on par with those of Central government staff.

A resolution adopted to this effect at its general council meeting held here on Saturday said that the recommendations of the pay scales for the graduate teachers by Sixth Pay Commission had brought about a wider gap in comparison with the Central scales, causing a serious disappointment to the state teachers.

The resolution pleaded for rectification of the same by stepping up the pay scales for state teachers on par with Central formula.

The meeting, through another resolution, urged the Central and state governments not to make optional the SSLC public examination. The present system of this public examination, the resolution said, was crucial for improving the educational status of students hailing from rural areas.

Seeking appointment of Block Resource Centre Supervisors by selecting the headmasters of the high schools alone, the meeting adopted a resolution demanding special incentive for teachers qualified with M.Phil degree.

The District president of the Association Sami. Sathiyamoorthy presided over the meeting. The district secretary M. Marrimuthu; the treasurer M. Thangaraju were among those who spoke.
