Halappa promises primary schools in tribal hadis

CHAMARAJANAGAR: The district in-charge and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, H. Halappa, has said that steps would be taken to open primary schools in tribal hadi’s of Chamarajanagar district within 10 days under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme.

Addressing presspersons after reviewing the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting held here on Friday, he said efforts would be made to fill 40 per cent vacant posts in the district administration after holding discussions with the Government. He said the jowar grown in 10,000 hectares of land would get damaged due to lack of rain in the district. He said the crops grown in Begur, Harave and Chandakavadi Hobli limits were withering from the dry spell.

Mr. Halappa said instructions had been given to the Forest Department to give permission to Girijana’s living in M.M. Hills forest limits to get power supply connection. He said of the 311 villages targeted to get electricity under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrical scheme, 153 had been electrified.

He said a proposal would be submitted to the Government seeking Rs. 3 crore to clear 700 applications pending before the Horticulture Department to provide drip-irrigation facility.

Mr. Halappa said that the School Development and Management Committee (SDMC) president appointed in high schools should get the signature of local MLA’s while spending SDMC funds. He said nine Government high schools in the district had achieved 100 per cent results in the SSLC examination and the pass percentage was better than last year. He said instructions had been given to the Deputy Commissioner to check whether there had been misappropriation of funds while purchasing instrument boxes and note books under Vidhya Vikas Scheme. He said Rs. 1.36 crore had been released for the construction of kitchens in all the schools under Akshara Dasoha scheme in the district. He said the Deputy Commissioner, CEO of zilla panchayat and Assistant Commissioner had been told to visit the Government high schools to check for misappropriation of funds.

KSRTC division

Mr. Halappa said the Government had sanctioned a division unit of the KSRTC for Chamarajanagar district. The Deputy Commissioner was scouting for five acres of land to construct a work shop and division office. He said Rs.72 crore had been spent to provide benefits to 1.41 lakh beneficiaries under various schemes.
