PHC opened at Se. Gudalur

Tiruvannamalai: Food Minister E.V. Velu inaugurated a Primary Health Centre in his native village of Se. Gudalur in Thandarampattu block near here on Saturday.

Mr. Velu said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime has spent a sum of Rs.3,391 crore through the Health Department during the last fiscal. A total of 5,411 doctors, 5,181 nursing staff, 10,262 other employees including medical technicians have been appointed since the DMK came to power [in 2006].

“As most of the vehicles at PHCs are not fit enough to be retained in service, the government has allotted funds to purchase 150 new vehicles. The new PHC will start operating from another government building in the village until a building of its own is constructed. Steps will be taken soon to begin the construction work. The building would need five acres of land, which would be donated by a Trust to the government soon,” Mr. Velu said.

He also inaugurated additional buildings constructed at Panchayat Union Middle School, a Co-operative ration shop, an overhead water tank with a capacity of 10,000 litres and a community hall in the village.

Mr. Velu distributed free colour television sets at Sadhakuppam and Perundhuraipattu and planted saplings.

Collector M. Rajendran presided over the function. Earlier, Mr.Velu felicitated presidents of village panchayats that had won Nirmal Gram Puraskar for exemplary performance under the Total Sanitation Programme, at a function was held at the Collectorate.
