Welcome showers: Rain lashed Bangalore on Friday, bringing much-needed relief to the people. Bangalore: The city woke up to a distinctly chilly morning on Friday as a thick cover of clouds brought the temperature down to 19 degrees Celsius. The weather is expected to remain this way — with low temperature, cloudy skies and some rain — for the next couple of days, according to officials at the meteorological centre here. “We are likely to see rain or thundershowers in the next 48 hours, and the temperature is likely to remain fairly low in the city,” said A. Muthuchami, director of the meteorological centre. Rain occurred at most places over coastal Karnataka; at a few places over north interior Karnataka and at isolated places over south interior Karnataka. Monsoon in the State as a whole so far, has been 22 per cent less than the long period average. “But this situation will change in the next three days ,” said Mr. Muthuchami. In fact, thundershowers were likely at most places over coastal Karnataka and the ghat areas of south interior Karnataka, he added. Rain was also expected in some places over north interior Karnataka and south interior Karnataka. Director-General of India Meteorological Department in New Delhi, Ajit Tyagi, will be launching new atmospheric technologies for improvement in observation, forecasting and communication techniques. The new technology will be launched in the city on Monday, Mr. Muthuchami said.
