HYDERABAD: Members and leaders of Yuva Rajyam, the youth wing of the Praja Rajyam on Friday staged a novel protest, enacting street plays against the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and rising costs of school education. The protests were staged at different places in the twin cities under the leadership of Yuva Rajyam general secretary D. Sravan. They first gathered near Alpha Café, opposite the Secunderabad Railway Station and after an hour of staging the play and slogan-shouting, moved on to Kukatpally. They then voiced their protest and raised slogans at the busy junction near the Rytu Bazaar at Mehdipatnam and near the bus depot at LB Nagar, before dispersing. Mr. Sravan regretted that one hand, the government was making available rice for Rs. 2 a kilo through the public distribution system, while on the other, the middle and other classes of people were forced to buy fine rice at Rs. 40 a kilo. On the education front too, he regretted that nothing was apparently being done to improve the infrastructure in government schools, while corporates were being encouraged to enter the field of education.
