VIJAYAWADA: APCC president D. Srinivas on Friday cautioned leaders of Krishna district that the party did not do particularly well in the district in the recent elections, and it was for all of them to close ranks and work for its revival in time for the local body elections. Addressing the party’s district review meeting in Swarnavedika function hall on Bandar Road, Mr. Srinivas remarked that the party did not win as many Assembly seats as it should have won and lost one of the two Lok Sabha seats. “The other (LS) seat too has been nearly lost, but finally won,” he remarked, referring to the victory by a relatively unimpressive margin of Lagadapati Rajagopal, who, incidentally, was not present at the meeting. In a remark interpreted by some partymen as aimed at Mr. Rajagopal, Mr. Srinivas said that those who did not have time for party programmes and were not attending meetings frequently should sit at home and take care of their personal works. At a Meet-the-Press organised earlier by the Press Club, Mr. Srinivas dismissed TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s charge that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was fanning trouble in his party. He also rejected the allegation that the Congress was poaching into other parties to bolster its tally in the Assembly. “We are comfortably placed, and there is no crisis in the Congress,” he said. On several questions on the Telangana issue, Mr. Srinivas said that the party’s stance had been clearly spelt out in the written statement read out by the Chief Minister on the floor of the Assembly.
