HYDERABAD: The government has decided to implement nine-hour power supply to the agriculture sector from July 15.

With additional capacity being added to Vijayawada thermal power station, the government will be able to fulfil its election promise, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao told reporters on the sidelines of Collectors conference, which commenced here on Friday.

Briefing reporters about the major deliberations, he said a committee comprising a Tahsildar, a police officer and AP Transco official would inquire into the death cases caused by electrocution and recommend compensation within a week.

An important decision taken at the meet, was to pool the available facilities in government hospitals for performing surgeries under Arogyasri.

This will enable the government-run hospitals to garner revenues worth Rs. 300 crore annually, which will ultimately help improve the facilities further. Heeding to the plea of patients, the government will allow dialysis for those suffering from renal problems in select government hospitals across the State.

Mr. Prasada Rao said that the conference decided that all the post-matriculation scholarships for students would henceforth be paid online. The scholarship money would be transferred directly to the students’ account to avoid scope for irregularities.

NREGS

The Revenue Minister said the works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) would be taken up in 4.40 lakh acres of forest land handed over to the tribals recently. Over one lakh acre would be brought under coffee cultivation in Paderu and another 30,000 under rubber cultivation.

On the SHG movement, officials were asked to launch a special drive in July to improve collections to at least 80 per cent. The recovery was badly hit due to the TDP’s cash transfer scheme and the loan waiver promise. Pension bonds would be issued to all the one crore thrift group members by November.
