Probe white card scam: Lok Satta

Special Correspondent

‘Unofficial estimates put the number of bogus cards at about

80 lakh’

HYDERABAD: Lok Satta Party, while welcoming the government’s resolve to weed out bogus white ration cards, demanded an inquiry into issuance of lakhs of cards to the ineligible people.

The party spokespersons said that the government had taken up many schemes on a saturation basis like white ration cards, grant of Indiramma houses, sanction of pensions and treatment under ‘Arogyasri’ and ignored their abuse with an eye on the elections. While the Chief Minister himself put the number of bogus cards at 30 lakh, unofficial estimates said about 80 lakh resulting in an avoidable loss of thousands of crores to the exchequer.

The Lok Satta said that such a large scale scam could not be swept under the carpet by terming it an administrative lapse. An inquiry should be conducted into the scam for taking action against the guilty whether they were politicians or officials.

The money siphoned by ineligible beneficiaries and local leaders in the implementation of Indiramma housing scheme should be recovered by the government instead of merely punishing the employees, they demanded.
