vigil: Forest officials of Tamil Nadu and Kerala at an Inter State Co-ordination Cell’s meeting held at Sadivayal, near Coimbatore on Friday. – Coimbatore: The inter-State coordination meeting of the Tamil Nadu and Kerala Forest officials on Friday resolved to initiate frequent interaction between themselves, joint patrolling and raids along the boundaries to end forest offences. The meeting held at Chadivayal at the foothills of Siruvani was presided over by W.S. Suting, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Palakkad, and Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore, R. Kannan. Field Director of Periyar Tiger Reserve, O.P. Kaler, Field Director of Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, H. Basuvaraju and Conservator of Forests, Eastern Circle, Palakkad, N. Sasidharan, attended. District Forest Officer, Coimbatore, I. Anwardeen, coordinated the meeting. The others who attended the meeting included District Forest Officers, Palakkad, Marayoor Sandalwood Division, Munnar, Mannarkad, Neelambur and Wildlife Warden from Silent Valley, Parambikulam, Range Officers from Tamil Nadu and bordering ranges of Kerala. The meeting focused on sharing of intelligence on forest offenders such as tree cutters and timber mafia, ganja cultivators, wildlife poachers. The meeting resolved to maintain constant vigil irrespective of jurisdictions to ensure that there was no naxal activities inside the jungles. Following an input from Forest Veterinarian, N.S. Manoharan, the meeting resolved to initiate vaccination of cattle in the fringe areas of the forests both in Tamil Nadu and Kerala simultaneously. On incidents of elephants being run over by trains near Walayar, the officials from Kerala said that efforts were on to realign the railway track. The officials resolved to ensure a meeting of range officers once a month in places where they shared borders. District Forest Officers and Wildlife Wardens would meet once a month and the Conservator of Forests once in six months.
