Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The government has notified the introduction of climate-based crop insurance scheme in the State during this kharif season. The scheme is being implemented jointly by the Union Agriculture Ministry, the State Agriculture Department and the public sector Agriculture Insurance Company of India. It will benefit pepper cultivation in Idukki and the viruppu paddy cultivation in the Alathur, Chittoor, Kollengode, Mannarkad, Pattambi, Thrithala, Ottappalam and Sreekrishnapuram blocks of Palakkad district. The scheme is being subsidised by the Central and the State governments. In the case of farmers who have not taken any loan, the last date for joining the scheme is July 6. The completed applications with the premium in cash should be submitted to the Agriculture Insurance Company through banks, approved brokers of the company, directly or through the Krishi Bhavans. More details can be had from the offices of the Agriculture Insurance Company and the Krishi Bhavans.
