‘Review aimed at better governance’

Yeddyurappa says the exercise was not for dropping any Minister

BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has sought to clear the air over the much-publicised review of Ministers’ performance by claiming that the exercise is aimed at enhancing the quality of governance and not for dropping any Minister as speculated in the media.

Addressing presspersons after completion of a four-day review of various departments at the State Secretariat, Mr. Yeddyurappa hit out at the Congress and said there was no substance in the Opposition’s criticism about resort meetings.

The “Manthan-2” scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday is aimed to tone up the State administration and accelerate the pace of implementation of development schemes in the second year of the BJP Government.

On the last day of the four-day exercise, the Chief Minister reviewed the performance of Urban Development, Home, Housing, Textile and Youth Affairs Departments and said officials had been directed to address problems faced by people in rural areas utilising resources effectively.

The Principal Secretaries, who have been appointed in-charge of districts, had been instructed to tour district twice a month and submit reports to the Chief Secretary.

Earlier, Confederation of Indian Industry-Southern Region (CII-SR) chairman C.R. Swaminathan called on the Chief Minister and discussed modalities for revival of the economy.
