3 youths held for robbery

They robbed a doctor at Teynampet
on Sunday

CHENNAI: Three youths who robbed a doctor of his valuables at Teynampet on Sunday were arrested by a special team on Thursday.

According to police sources, Robert Coelho, paediatric surgeon in a private hospital, was returning home at 2.50 a.m. on Sunday when a gang that came in a car intercepted him on Cathedral Road. They threatened him and robbed him of an expensive mobile phone, Rs.5,000 in cash and credit cards.

On the instructions of Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Mylapore) A.G. Mourya formed a special team to investigate the case.

The team went to Puducherry where the suspects had used the credit cards to make purchases.

One of the restaurants where they had breakfast had taken note of the car number.

With this clue, police located the address of registered owner of the vehicle in Kancheepuram district. However, his family members said the car was being used by a relative in Chennai.

Based on these inputs, police arrested H. Krishnakumar (21) of Nolambur early on Thursday. Based on his confession, R. Anand Mathew (21) of Mogappair, a second year college student, and V. Kingston (20) of Padi were apprehended. They were produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.

The articles purchased by the accused with the credit card were seized. A search was on to locate the fourth accused in the case, the sources added.
