Speed up temple and BRTS works, says Collector

Stresses effective coordination among all implementing agencies

Complete Budameru diversion channel works by weekend, he says

VIJAYAWADA: Krishna District Collector Peeyush Kumar on Thursday reviewed the status of works pertaining to Kanakadurga temple, Budameru Diversion Channel, Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Indiramma houses and ration supplies in separate reviews, and asked the officials concerned to speed up the works.

After having darshan of goddess Kanakadurga on Indrakeeladri for the first time after assuming charge two days ago, Mr. Kumar took stock of the works pertaining to development of the temple and made it clear to Executive Officer T. Chandra Kumar and other officials that all the developmental works should be completed before Dasara. He examined the pace of works pertaining to the Rs.2.5-crore Mallikharjuna Mahamandapam, Rs.9.8-crore Maha Rajagopuram, Rs.3.5-crore retaining wall, Rs.8.5-crore entry ramp and Rs.4-crore extension ramp.

Reviewing the BRTS works in the camp office with the officials of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), VGTM-UDA, APSRTC and Transport Department, the Collector stressed the importance of effective coordination among all implementing agencies for speedy execution of the project. VMC Commissioner P.S. Pradyumna briefed Mr. Kumar about the trial run and its results, while transport officials told him that bus designs had been sent to the committee. The APSRTC authorities here would have to get these designs approved by their higher ups in Hyderabad.

Joint Collector B. Ramaiah, Sub-Collector in-charge A.L. Chennakesava Rao, VGTM-UDA Vice-Chairman Y.S.B.S. Vittal, APSRTC Regional Manager A. Koteswara Rao and Deputy Transport Officer T. Raghunath participated in the meeting. In respect of efforts to prevent floods in the Budameru drain, Mr. Kumar wanted the works on the diversion channel from Velagaleru to be completed by the weekend. While every care should be taken to prevent floods in the drain, permanent measures must be initiated at least from the next year. He asked the Irrigation and R&B authorities to repair the bridge on the culvert at Gunadala. In response to Mr. Pradyumna’s submission that 400 houses on the bund had been removed.
