Bus stop to be shifted from today

MADURAI: A few changes on the movement of city buses near the Collectorate-Anna bus stand roundabout is to be introduced from Friday, said Commissioner of Police K. Nandabalan here on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, Nr. Nandabalan said that a study conducted on the vehicular flow near the Collectorate junction on Panagal Road revealed that traffic jams were frequent near Thiruvalluvar statue.

Hence, it has been proposed to shift the bus stop on Panagal Road (opposite Old Ramanathapuram Collectorate) to Asari Thoppu Street (near Rajeswari Hotel).

Similarly, buses proceeding to Maatuthavani Integrated Bus Stand from Goripalayam shall take the Sivaganga road.

In the return direction, buses from Maatuthavani Integrated Bus Stand bound for Goripalayam shall use Aavin junction-Aravind Eye Hospitals road to reach Anna bus stand.

By this arrangement, the traffic jam around the Thiruvalluvar statue could be avoided as trial run during the last one week showed improvement in vehicular movement, Mr. Nandabalan said.
