Correcting history

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s move to establish a Kremlin commission to counter the West’s attempts at falsifying history (June 24) is welcome. Russia’s contribution to the Allied victory in the Second World War and the sacrifices it made to free the world from fascism and Nazism are well known. But by attempting to belittle its role, the western world is conspiring to blur the vision of the next generation. World War II was the outcome of the connivance of British imperialism with Nazi aggrandisement for fear of retaliatory attack on its own empire. Historians should throw their weight behind the Kremlin commission in its attempt to demystify wrong history.

* * *

Several U.S. and French lies were exposed during the Geneva talks on Vietnam. In recent times, we have seen how lies were built upon to wage war against Iraq. Also, at the instigation of Israel, the U.S. maintains that Iran is building a nuclear weapons programme, despite IAEA’s confirmation that it is not true. The U.S. has all along been in the fabrication business to influence the world to think in the manner it does.

S.P. Sundaram,

Bangalore
