He skates a new glory

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: Abhishek Navale (7) claimed a new record in the “Longest Backward Limbo Skating Under Vehicles” when he glided under ten multi-utility vehicles in the presence of a large gathering on Darga Chowk premises in Sadalga town of Chikkodi taluk in Belgaum district on Thursday.

He is said to have broken the world record in “Longest Backward Limbo Skating Under Bars” as he successfully moved under bars providing a gliding space of only 8.7 inches and covering a distance of 62 feet, to a thundering applause from enthusiasts. He broke the record of 11-year-old Kaitlyn Conner of the U.S., who on July 28, 2008, created a world record by skating under 23 bars spread over 12 feet.

The event was held on a newly-laid 100-foot track at the Darga Chowk.

Prominent among those present on the occasion to congratulate Abhishek was Lok Sabha member Ramesh V. Katti.

Abhishek, son of Sanjay and Sujata Nalvale of Belgaum, made a confident and decisive start to achieve his feat.

Even while celebrating his achievement, Abhishek responded with an unpretentious and humble smile. He said he would continue to work hard to set new records.

Many feats to his credit

Winner of “Bal Pratibha Puraskar 2008” of the Karnataka government, this young skater has many feats to his credit. He has skated 540 km from Bangalore to Belgaum in six days and has participated in several skating rallies aimed at spreading awareness on social issues ranging from AIDS to blood donation.
