HYDERABAD: The deadline for completion of P. V. Narasimha Rao Expressway for providing fast connectivity to the international airport at Shamshabad from the city has been revised to October 2. The Expressway was earlier set for inauguration on August 15.

The 11.5-km Expressway from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to Aramghar junction has major components including trumpet interchange, underpass and a four-lane divided carriageway and three ramps. Financial crunch faced by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) was also said to be a reason for the delay.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who reviewed the progress of major projects of HMDA on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in completion of the roads connecting the airport.

The HMDA officials said that after the initial setbacks the project suffered due to delay in shifting underground utilities, clearance from defence and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), they were working towards a target of completing the project by August 15. But, since January this year, the project was hit by resource crunch.

HMDA officials sought time till November as all the three sets of ramps at Laxminagar, Upparpally and Aramghar would not be ready. However, Chief Minister insisted that the Expressway should become operational by October 2.

Dr. Reddy also reviewed the works on Phase I and II of the Outer Ring Road and directed the HMDA officials to cancel the contracts if the work was not progressing as per the schedule and award the work to the next contractor as per terms and conditions.
