A. K. Khan VIJAYAWADA: In a day of dramatic developments on Wednesday, A.K. Khan, Additional Director-General of Police and M.G.V.K. Bhanu, Special Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, submitted their resignations to their posts of vice-presidents of the crisis-ridden Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). They, interestingly, submitted their resignations to Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy, though the letters were addressed to the ACA president. Speaking to the media persons in Hyderabad, Mr. Khan said that in the wake of allegations and counter allegations by the office-bearers of the ACA, the government had initiated a probe, which, he said, was a good sign. “The truth will come out once the probe is over. It is unfortunate that the ACA, which was performing well as a unit, has plunged into scandals and scams,” he remarked. Mr. Khan felt that these controversies “should not harm the players and the sport” and suggested that the administrators take care of the interests of the sport and its players. The police official said it would be “improper on my part to stay on as an officer-bearer of the association under the present circumstances.” In his letter of resignation, Mr. Bhanu appealed to the Chief Secretary to order take over of the association by the government. He expressed anguish over the developments in the ACA. The murky happenings in the ACA were already taken to the notice of Home Minster P. Sabita Indira Reddy by some women cricketers, following which the Minister appointed senior IPS officer M. Ratan to inquire into the allegations of harassment by V. Chamundeswaranath, who has been divested of the responsibility of secretary.
