Patient’s death leads to tension

Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM: Tension prevailed at the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital following the death of a patient in the Department of Communicable Diseases, on Wednesday morning.

Baby (52) who had been admitted to the Department on Monday was found dead on his bed by his bystander.

According to his relatives, he died after the duty nurse administered an injection to him.

According to P. K. Balakrishnan, superintendent, the allegation was baseless.

The patient was admitted with symptoms of Leptospirosis (rat fever) and seriousness of his condition was conveyed to his relatives earlier. Meanwhile, relatives and bystanders of some other patients refused to allow the body to be removed to the mortuary . Gandhi Nagar police had to be called in to bring the situation under control.
