CUDDALORE: Collector P. Seetharaman has said that those buying plots in urban areas should verify the authenticity of documents before clinching the deal. At the end of a 13-day ‘jamabandhi’ session at Panruti near here on Tuesday, he said that a total of 2,225 petitions were received from June 10 to 23. Majority of them were seeking pattas or transfer of pattas. Mr. Seetharaman said that at certain places, ‘poromboke’ lands and water sources such as ‘odai,’ canals and tanks had been encroached upon. This had led to floods or water-logging time and again. Therefore, those buying house site plots ought to pay attention to such details. Mr. Seetharaman said that last year a total of 119 villages in Panruti block were covered under the jamabandhi session. However, the number had come down to 111 this year, because eight villages were acquired by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation for expansion of mining activity. Last year, revenue collection in the block should have been around Rs. 24.25 lakh. But, the actual realisation was only Rs. 6.78 lakh, owing to drought.
