Vijayawada
strike force: Income Tax Commissioner R.C. Pramanik inaugurates the South Central Zonal Carroms and Table Tennis Tournaments 2009-10 organised by the LIC Divisional Sports Committee, in Vijayawada on Wednesday. VIJAYAWADA: The two-day south central zonal carroms and table tennis tournaments organised by the LIC Divisional Sports Committee (Machilipatnam division) got underway here on Wednesday, with Income Tax Commissioner R.C. Pramanik inaugurating the event. Mr. Pramanik said that despite many new players entering the field of insurance, LIC continued to remain the most sought-after one by the customers. The fact that its customer base was steadily increasing over the years showed the popularity the LIC had among the people. “You all are lucky to work with a great institution called the LIC,” he said, amidst applause from the hundred-odd participants from AP and Karnataka. Mr. Pramanik said Krishna district was well-known for its contribution to arts and culture. “You are in the district that offered the greatest dance form Kuchipudi and the village by the name is situated just 40 km from here,” he remarked. The IT official candidly admitted that he was bad at sports but passionate in observing the sportsmen performing on the field. Players from Bangalore, Belgaum, Dharwar, Hyderabad, Kadapa, Karimnagar, Visakhapatnam, Mysore, Rajahmundry, Shimoga, Raichur, Warangal, Secunderabad and Udipi are taking part in the table tennis and carroms events.
