New online facility for passport applicants
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: The Consular Passport and Visa Division of the Ministry of External Affairs has introduced a new menu on the website - http://passport.gov.in - for submission of online registered applications under the Tatkal Scheme to reduce waiting time.
According to a press release from the Ministry on Monday, there would be two separate menus for online registration of normal as well as Tatkal applications. Applicants have been requested to register their applications online in the separate menu for Tatkal applications.
On Saturday, A. Manickam, joint Secretary (CPV) and Chief Passport Officer, Ministry of External Affairs, visited the Regional Passport Office in Chennai. Following the ‘Arrear Clearance Day’ on Saturday, more than 1,000 applications over a month-old had been cleared in various stages of passport processing and 1,100 passports were printed and made ready for dispatch, the release said.
To reduce the time taken for issuing passports and to clear pending applications, the Regional Passport Office at Chennai would follow ‘Arrear Clearance Drive’ for the next one month, the release said.
