Appeasing gods for rain

VIJAYAWADA: As monsoon continues to play truant and dry spell conditions appear to be setting in, Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam has planned special rituals and a yagam for five days for “people’s welfare, State’s prosperity, protection of environment and prevention of drought” on Indrakeeladri from June 25.

Temple Executive Officer T. Chandrakumar said in a statement on Monday that the “Varuna Sahasra Ghattabhishekam” would be performed by Vedic scholars and pandits from 7.50 a.m. to 12 noon every day.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., there would be Varuna Japamulu, Parayananalu, Mandapa Puja, Harathi and Prasada Vitharana.

On the concluding day on May 29, Krishna water would be brought for Sahasra Ghattamulu at 7 a.m., which would be followed by Mahanyasa Parayana Ghattabhishekam, Purnahuti and Udvasana between 8 a.m. and 12 noon.
