Six held in robbery case

CHENNAI: The robbery case in which motorcycle-borne suspects robbed the manager of a businessman of Rs.50 lakh at Vepery here on June 17 was solved with the arrest of six persons.

According to police sources, special teams formed by the Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran and the Joint Commissioner of Police V.A. Ravikumar followed specific clues and apprehended Sakthivel (32), Sathya alias Soosai Sathya (37), Madan (32), Jayakumar alias Nagesh (30), Kannan (38) and Kudiarasu alias Kumaravel (34) of Chennai.

The accused confessed to having committed the robbery along with four others. The motorcycles used to commit the offence and Rs.40 lakh were seized. Police are on the lookout for others involved in the case.

The accused had intercepted Kamalraj, an employee of businessman Ratan R. Jain of Sowcarpet, and snatched a cash bag containing Rs.50 lakh. The incident occurred around 2.15 p.m. on Wednesday.
