Duo arrested for using fake credit cards

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The Grand Bazaar police arrested a woman and her accomplice on Monday, for allegedly trying to purchase gold ornaments from a jewellery mart at Kosakadai Street by fraudulent ways.

According to Superintendent of Police (North), N. T Sivadasan, the woman residing at Chennai, tried to use a credit card of a private bank, for paying the bill after purchasing two sovereigns of gold ornaments.

The jewellery owner said, as the card looked different, he got suspicious and informed the Grand Bazaar police.

When enquired, the woman said the card was given to her by a friend, when she was working in Singapore as maid.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the card did not belong to the private bank and obtained through fraudulent ways. Cases have been registered under section 471 (using a forged document or electronic record) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of Indian Penal Code, the Superintendent of Police said.

The woman, named Manjula, a resident of Irusappan Street, Mint in Chennai and her accomplice Arumugham, a resident of Alangapakkam in Chennai, have been remanded to judicial custody.

The duo would be taken to custody for further investigation, Mr. Sivadasan said.
