Puducherry
Greetings: Union Minister of State for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture V. Narayanasamy and PMC leader P. Kannan at the meeting in Puducherry on Monday — PUDUCHERRY: All assurances given by the Congress to the voters during the Lok Sabha election campaign will be fulfilled, Union Minister of State for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture V. Narayanasamy said here on Monday. “Assurances with regard to distribution of rice at Re.1 a kg, colour television sets, and bus passes for Re.1 to students in the rural areas will be implemented. Adequate funds to implement the programmes will be given by the Union government,” Mr. Narayanasamy said. He was addressing the executive committee meeting of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC), where he along with Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam and his ministerial colleagues were special invitees. Thanking the PMC for extending support to his candidature, he said the victory of the Congress candidate in the Union Territory proved there was “no place for caste-based parties” in the territory. The Congress had gathered information about those who had kept themselves away from the campaign, and those who had worked against the official candidate, he said. “Everyone knows who abstained during the Lok Sabha polls. No one is above the party and we will take action against those who worked against the interest of the party,” he said. In his address, PMC leader P. Kannan said: “We aligned with the Congress, taking into account the national interest. We have not sought any position or favour to extend such support. The support extended to the Congress will continue in the future.”
