Long wait: Farmers starting agricultural operations at some places on Sunday in Adilabad district. —

ADILABAD: Except for a few places in Adilabad district, agriculture activity has been delayed considerably this year due to delay in the arrival of monsoon. Only about 20 mm of rainfall has been recorded since June 1 against a normal amount of 140 mm during the period.

The present dry spell reminds one during 2008. The only difference was there was no rainfall in the beginning of June

last year. Some of the farmers had sown seeds following a brief spell of rain but things went against them after that.

This year, sowing activity has been delayed across the district making the farmers extremely anxious. However, it was taken up in a few villages of Talamadugu and Adilabad mandal in the past two days because of some rainfall.
