Andhra Pradesh
As the monsoon has set in, it is time for the health officials to keep a strict vigil on the hotels and check whether they are adhering to stipulated norms. Recent media reports point out that most of the hotels, including star hotels, were violating the laid down norms. Unsanitary conditions are prevailing in hotels and restaurants, while some have been found to be using stale mutton and chicken. In some hotels, they found that the hoteliers’ are not maintaining the specified standards. The food is not being prepared under hygienic conditions at some establishments. The officials should shut down the hotels instead of just leaving them with a warning. U. Jagadeeswari Khammam Check spread of swine fluThe World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the spreading of swine flu as a pandemic as it infected nearly 30,000 people in 74 countries. The number of infected cases in our country touched 20, including 9 cases from Andhra Pradesh. People suffering from chronic illness, pregnant women, and those who are malnourished and poor are susceptible to this virus. We must be prepared to fight against the virus for another year or two until people develop immunity to the virus. Besides, medicines should be provided to the needy to contain the spread of virus. Y. Pratap Reddy Tiruvur Yadav not at faultI am yet to understand why the Election Commission of India transferred S.S.P. Yadav, the DGP from his post during elections. If he said a word in praise of administration of the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in his personal capacity, it is not wrong because under Article 19 of Indian Constitution, every citizen has right to express his views. The DGP did not ask the public or his subordinates to vote for any party. Even if he asked, for argument sake, would people act as he wished? To work on behalf of a political party in election is different from one expressing his personal opinion about the administration of chief minister, whether positive or negative. C. Jacob Narsapur Women’s Reservation BillIt is needless to find fault with JD(U) president Sharad Yadav opposing 33 per cent reservation for women as the Bill was not passed for the past 14 years by the honourable members of Parliament. The members are always at loggerheads on several issues, including Women’s Reservation Bill. But, astonishingly, they exhibited solidarity for enhancing their pay and perks. S. Vijaya Seshu, Kothagudem Pensioners’ woesIt is fact that the Municipal Pensioner’s are suffering since so many decades as there is no guarantee on when they will receive pensions. The pensions are being released to them only after the accumulation of funds. To put an end to these woes, the State government decided to pay the pensions through the treasury. But, the treasury officials are asking the pensioners to produce pension sanction orders. It is difficult task for many old aged pensioners as the orders were issued decades ago. Hence, as alternative, the treasury officials should pay the pensions with sufficient proofs like ration card or election card or house tax receipt certified by notary. B.V.
