Plea for additional quantum of pension

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Elders’ Welfare Association has requested the Chief Minister to grant octogenarians, nonagenarians and centenarians additional quantum of pension similar to the one given to Central government’s super-annuated pensioners and family pensioners.

In a petition to the Chief Minister dated June 16, 2009 the association requested the State government to pay the arrears from January 1, 2006 as had been implemented in the case of the Central government pensioners and family pensioners.

The additional quantum of pension for Central government’s super-annuated pensioners and family pensioners in the age group of 80-85 is 20 per cent of revised basic pension/family pension.

For the age group of 85-90 it is 30 per cent, for 90-95 years it is 40 per cent, for 95-100 years it is 40 per cent and above 100 years it is 100 per cent, according to the petition.

The association requested the State to raise the minimum basic pension to Rs.3500 per month as had been doneby the Centre.

It thanked the Chief Minister for the grant of the enhanced pension to the Tamil Nadu government Pensioners and family pensioners in conformity with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
