International conference on ‘Srimad Bhagavatam’ begins

Staff Reporter

Translation of Bhagavatam sought in regional languages for public benefit

TIRUPATI: Noted Visakhapatnam-based spiritualist and orator Sadguru Kandukuri Sivananda Murthy has called for an extensive study of Srimad Bhagavatam, as the religious doctrine transcends all barriers to become a guide on ‘creation’.

In his keynote address at the international conference on ‘Srimad Bhagavatam’, organised by Sri Venkateswara University’s Oriental Research Institute (ORI) in association with the TTD and Hyderabad-based Shanta Biotech, he said that apart from the message of ‘Bhakti’, the treasure house of knowledge also focused on the various primordial stages of creation, the forces that worked the primary stages of creation and even the creation of ‘time’.

“The difference from the modern thought is that these stages are governed by an intelligence of the supreme power or God,” he noted.

Mr. Sivananda Murthy saw in Srimad Bhagavatam valuable information as if it were the beginning of time itself.

K.I. Varaprasad Reddy, Managing Director, Shanta Biotech said the event was aimed at unearthing the hidden concept of ‘Unity in Diversity’ in the Bhagavatam. He sought its translation into regional languages for public benefit.

Calling Bhagavata, one of the 18 Mahapuranas written by sage Veda Vyasa, as one of the bedrocks of Indian culture,

Sri Venkateswara University Vice-Chancellor N.Prabhakara Rao said the epic gave an eternal message on the need for ‘internal elevation’ to the mundane world that was madly chasing material wealth. Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha Vice-Chancellor Hare Krishna Satapathy also aired similar views.

Registrar Y.Venkatrami Reddy and ORI Director V.Venkataramana Reddy were among the participants.
