Five killed, 20 injured in accident

Mangled remains: The bus which was hit by a lorry coming in the wrong direction in Mahabubnagar on Saturday.

MAHABUBNAGAR: Five persons were killed and 20 others injured — five of them critically — in a head-on collision between a RTC bus and a tipper at Mudireddypally village in Balanagar mandal on National Highway 7 on Saturday.

According to eyewitness accounts, the tipper, which was proceeding towards Jadcherla from Shadnagar, was completely on the wrong side and hit the bus going to Hyderabad from Nagarkurnool around 10.30 a.m. The collision led to death of five persons travelling in the bus. The injured were shifted to SVS Medical College hospital near Mahabubnagar. The victims were identified as Khaja Begum (40), Balaji (33), Balamani (30), Hymavati (30) and Chandana (20).
