Staff Correspondent

Control rooms set up in all taluks to tackle calamities

Tahsildars to clear 1,015 applications pertaining to corrections to be made in RTC records

Village accountant to be asked to assess crops grown by farmers to record it in RTCs

Madikeri: Kodagu district administration is gearing up to meet any eventuality during the monsoon season by equipping the officials of various departments with walkie talkie and setting up of rehabilitation centres.

The Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, tahsildars of the three taluks, five deputy tahsildars, 16 revenue inspectors, Commissioner of the Madikeri City Municipal Council and the fire service personnel have been provided with walkie talkie so that they can take speedy steps in case of any calamities during the rainy season, an official press release issued here on Saturday said.

According to Akram Pasha, in-charge Additional Deputy Commissioner, all the 16 revenue inspectors have been equipped with cameras as well so that they can take photographs of natural calamities and damage caused. Control rooms that have been set up in the three taluk headquarters will function round-the-clock in three shifts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Officials and staff of any government department could be deputed for the purpose of calamity management, Mr. Pasha said.

Interested persons can get information on the movements of the tahsildars, deputy tahsildars, chief officers of the town panchayats, and revenue inspectors while they attend to calamities. Rain reports can be obtained before 8.30 a.m. every day from any of the officials.

RTC

Mr. Pasha said corrections to the Right of Tenancy and Cultivation (RTCs) records pertaining to 1,015 applications from the people in the district would be effected within a month. There were 427 RTCs from Virajpet taluk, 364 from Somwarpet taluk and 224 from Madikeri taluk, he said.

Mr. Pasha said he had entrusted the work of making corrections in the RTCs to the tahsildars. He added that he had asked them to dispose of applications from November 2008 to April 2009. Owing to the elections to the Lok Sabha, the task was incomplete. However, the tahsildars would now clear all the 1,015 applications in a month’s time, he said.

Making entry

Referring to the empty columns appearing in the RTCs pertaining to crops, Mr. Pasha said village accountants would be asked to assess various crops grown by farmers every year for entry in the RTC.

Mr. Pasha said there were over 88,000 RTCs in Madikeri taluk and the entry in the crop column had been made. In Somwarpet taluk, there were more than 91,000 RTCs and the process of entering them in the crop column was under way.

In Virajpet taluk, there were more than 95,000 RTCs whose crop column entries would be made within a month, Mr. Pasha stated.
